Our Beliefs

We believe that the Christian message or “Gospel” is God’s good news that is comprised of 3 parts: the problem, the solution, and the purpose.

We believe that the Christian message or “Gospel” is God’s good news that is comprised of 3 parts: the problem, the solution, and the purpose.

The Problem: We live in a broken world because humanity has rejected God. The consequence of our rebellion has led to death and God’s judgment on humanity.

  • Romans 1:18-22; 3:9–12
  • Ephesians 2:3
  • Romans 5:12

The Solution: God sent Jesus to rescue humanity from death and God’s judgment. He does this by dying for our rebellion and judgment, and conquers death by rising from the dead.

  • Romans 3:21–26
  • Ephesians 2:4–9
  • 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
  • Romans 5:6-11, 15

The Purpose: Jesus did this so that humanity might be restored in their relationship with God. He saves us to enjoy and worship God in his greatness forever.

  • 1 Peter 2:9–10; 3:18
  • Revelation 7:9-17
  • Revelation 21:1-4

We do not believe that God motivates us by guilt and shame into living for Him. We believe that being motivated by God’s unconditional grace in Jesus and his saving work is the key to living a life that enjoys Him, seeks to worship Him and gives us freedom to live in obedience to Him – to be people who are “eager to do what is good”. (Titus 2:14)

What we believe at GracePoint can be summed up in the 5 Solas (or slogans) that reflects our Reformed theological convictions about the essentials of the Christian faith.

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): The work of Jesus Christ alone saves us.
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.

A more detailed expression of what this means is outlined in the Westminster Confession of Faith of the Presbyterian Church that we are theologically committed to.
