As regular members of our GracePoint Lidcombe evening church community we’d like to let you know that we’re looking forward to serving the ministry of the gospel with you as we move into 2019. As I shared today with those of you who were able to come to our open planning and prayer meeting for our Lidcombe evening church community, nothing has changed and nothing will change going into 2019 because the word of the gospel that has saved us will continue to be proclaimed and made known at GracePoint. 1 Peter 1:23-25 is always a great reminder to us that there's nothing in our lives that will not eventually perish and come to an end. 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you. Eventually, all our achievements and even the relationships we most treasure will come to an end. Yet, Peter reminds us in the same chapter that we have a far greater inheritance because of Jesus. The inheritance he gives will never perish, spoil or fade (1 Peter 1:3-4). The word of the gospel and what it has secured for us remains forever and lasting. For the gospel has secured for us not just forgiveness of sin, but a lasting relationship with God forever, our true inheritance (1 Peter.3:18). It’s where we are to place our confidence, trust and hope (1 Peter.1:13). In fact, 1 Peter was actually written to encourage and anchor God’s people in difficult times by reminding them of God’s enduring gospel and their lasting inheritance. We’ll be looking much more at this next year as we spend the first half of our year preaching and studying the book of 1 Peter together.
Let me encourage you by saying that while you may feel that things are personally changing for you at GracePoint, remember that the enduring word of the gospel that has saved you and given you a lasting inheritance will continue to be proclaimed and made known. There might be changes in our community, but our mission has not changed, and our vision to make disciples in community who are captured by the enduring word of the gospel and their lasting inheritance remains. Our mission has not changed, and our vision to make disciples who love Jesus, who love each other in community around Jesus, and who will love our city and world as Jesus would continues.
On behalf of our GracePoint Pastors/Elders,
